Neerja Aggarwal, a 2012 Hightower High School graduate and member of the 2012 Gifted and Talented Mentorship class, is the recipient of an Adelle McClendon Young Leader Scholarship, presented by the Texas Association for the Gifted and Talented. She is one of two students to receive a full scholarship provided by the Summer Math Institute at the University of North Texas. Scholarship recipients are those who have demonstrated outstanding leadership in their school and community.
Neerja has been involved in Girl Scouts, has competed in numerous science competitions (including the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair) and has completed extensive research in the emerging field of nanotechnology. During last spring semester’s G/T Mentorship class, Neerja researched chemical engineering and carbon nanotechnology with Dr. Kenneth McElrath and Dr. Xiaodong Hu at Continental Carbon Nanotechnologies, Inc. in Houston.
She will attend the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the fall to study chemical engineering and theatre.
