As residents of the Pecan Grove community readied for the upcoming 4th of July festivities their sense of calm was shattered. Pecan Grove has been on the outskirts of Richmond nestled along the big curve on FM 359 for more than 30 years. It is a community that is seldom affected by felonious crimes. It is a bedroom community that has rarely fallen prey to the home invasion type robberies that have plagued the east side of Fort Bend County.
That all changed about 10 p.m., Wednesday, July 3, when Sheriff’s and Constable’s deputies were called to a home in the 1800 block of Plantation Drive in Pecan Grove after a home invasion robbery.
According to Sheriff’s spokesman Bob Haenel, “A homeowner was having dinner with his fiancé and her mother and aunt when they heard a sound coming from the back of the house. The man went to investigate and was confronted by a subject holding a large revolver.” Haenel explained that the intruder ordered the homeowner to the floor at gunpoint, taking his wallet and cell phone. Hearing the commotion, the three female dinner guests ran outside. Unfortunately in their haste to get away, the aunt fell and was ordered back inside by the gunman said Haenel. However, the other two women were able to escape to a nearby residence and call for help.
Haenel said there were three suspects that were described as Hispanic. One was described as chubby and about 5’5″. They are believed to have fled the area via the golf course behind the home. Haenel said no description was available for the other two suspects. While in the home the suspects made off with the owners cell phone, a computer tablet, some currency, a diving watch, miscellaneous jewelry and credit cards. The homeowner is a business owner in Houston. No physical injuries were reported.
