Hometown heroes help sink Astros

Two Fort Bend County high school graduates who now play baseball for the St. Louis Cardinals returned to Houston Aug. 16-17 and helped their team sweep the two-game series with the Astros. Infielder Matt Carpenter (Elkins High School) was 2-7 with two hits, two walks and two strikeouts over the two games. He is hitting .289 this season, slightly above his career .287 average. Outfielder Randal Grichuk (Lamar Consolidated High School) was 3-8 with a run, an RBI and two strikeouts and a .225 average for the two games. His career average is .251.
