Living without a car in Fort Bend County can be rough. Few people know that better than “Ronald,” who walked an entire 20 miles from Rosenberg to Second Mile Mission Center in Stafford. With no transportation, no food and little hope for his future, he desperately sought services from Second Mile.
“When I first saw Ronald, he had lost his faith and felt hopeless,” his counselor Josh said. “Today, when you see him, he’s a different person. He knows God has a purpose for his life.”
Second Mile provided him with spiritual support, food, clothing, a place to shave and even a bike to help him get around. Ronald had no birth certificate or ID card, but with his counselor’s encouragement, he gathered these documents and is now able to apply for job opportunities and further assistance.
Only a few months into 2011, we’ve seen community needs increase 9 percent from this time last year. More individuals like Ronald and families in difficult situations are seeking help for their most basic needs.
