Impact A Hero and KPRC’s Sports Director Randy McIlvoy hosted the 8th Annual Impact A Hero Weekend-Kickoff Party on Thursday, March 22 in the Brazos Suite at Reliant Stadium. Scott H. Koza, Chief Geophysicist, Gulf of Mexico Exploration for Marathon Oil Corporation, donated $50,000 to support veteran heroes who’ve been severely injured in the War on Terror.
Special guest Wade Phillips, Houston Texans Defensive Coordinator, addressed the crowd as well as keynote speaker, Sgt. Ronny Porta, USMC. Impact Player Partners honored our veteran heroes who have been wounded in battle. Among the veterans recognized were Army Sergeant Andrew Miller, Army Sergeant Sergio Trejo, Marine Corporal Steven Schultz, Marine Sergeant Jason Shaw and Marine Sergeant Ronny Porta.
Impact A Hero gives Houstonians an opportunity to join national celebrities at Impact A Hero Weekend, June 2-4. The weekend will start off with the 5K Walk Run and Wheel on Saturday, June 2 at Mercer Stadium in Sugar Land. Special guests participating in the 5K include Texans Coach Gary Kubiak and several of his coaches and players. Also on Saturday, June 2, the Astros will honor the severely wounded veterans in a pre-game ceremony at Minute Maid Park. The Hall of Fame Gala Dinner will be held on Sunday, June 3 at the Sugar Land Marriot Hotel. Impact a Hero Weekend will conclude on Sunday, June 4 with the Impact a Hero Golf Challenge beginning at 10 a.m. at Champions Golf Club in Houston.
