You can say goodbye to Rick Miller, the newly elected state representative from District 26. Miller has no opponent in the General Election.
We can bid adieu because I can only assume he will fall into the maw where Charlie Howard disappeared about 20 years ago. After being elected, Charlie seldom came to community events, attending only Republican events.
Oh, occasionally he would surface at a community event, particularly if it was near election dates.
Since Rick Miller never attended any community events unless they were sponsored by the Republican party, I can only think that we won’t see him again unless we happen to wander into the house floor or Dan Patrick’s Senate office.
Rick Miller’s election continues to show that only a white man can get elected as state representative in Fort Bend County. Jacquie did everything she could possibly do. She followed all the rules. She went to everything. She spent money on advertising and mailings. She block walked. She was everywhere with a smile and a handshake. And her beliefs were conservative. She was anti- abortion and believed that school choice (waivers) were okay. Jacquie had a master’s degree in public policy, the very thing she needed to know the most about to be a good state representative. Heck, she was a professor at U of H about it. So Jacquie had everything. She had the background, she had the money, she had the support of the community leaders, she had the personality, she had the fire, she was hard working, She had everything but the votes. But she was also little, and black, and a girl, any one attribute which can disqualify you for higher office in Fort Bend.
So hello Jacquie. We’re still behind you. I’m sure you will be around and maybe to even run again, After all you bought a house to be able to stay in the district.
But Rick, I doubt we’ll see much of him.Why should we? He’s got what he wants. At least for now.
Supposedly, he is planning on running against Pete Olson., That’s just perfect. We don’t see much of Pete either. Wait,. I take that back., I’ve seen much more of Pete in the past year than Rick.
When I first heard that Rick would run against Pete, I laughed. In fact, I had much the same reaction when I heard he was going to resign the Republican party head and run against Jacquie. I thought there was no way he could beat Jacquie. I honestly don’t know who voted for him.
Jacquie, don’t give up. Five thousand people wanted you as our representative. And that was in a runoff. You got more votes in the run off than in the election. That ought to tell you how revered you are. We love you and want you to continue your quest to be recognized as the best. You are and people already know it.
