The First Half Freedom Division Champion Sugar Land Skeeters announced that left-handed pitcher Jason Lane will return to Sugar Land for its Atlantic League playoff run. Outfielders Ryan Langerhans, Steve Moss and right-handed pitcher Michael Nix have rejoined the club, while veteran outfielder Brian Burgamy has also recently signed with the Skeeters. The announcement was made by Skeeters Manager Gary Gaetti.
The Skeeters currently hold an Atlantic League all-time best record of 93-42 and maintain the best winning percentage in professional baseball (.689).
Lane comes to Sugar Land following 11 appearances (six starts) with the San Diego Padres’ Triple A Tucson club, posting a 2-2 record and a 5.24 ERA (27ER/46.1IP) with 33 strikeouts. Named the Skeeters 2012 Most Valuable Player during the inaugural season, Lane began this year with the Skeeters, going 8-3 with a 2.80 ERA (31ER/99.2IP) prior to his signing with the Padres organization in July.
Langerhans rejoins the Skeeters this month following a recent second stint with the Toronto Blue Jays’ Triple A Buffalo. He spent the first half of the 2013 season with Buffalo and hit at a .220 (37×168) with nine homers and 25 RBI over 51 games. In early July, the Texas native arrived in Sugar Land and played 36 games for the Skeeters, hitting .283 (32×113) with 10 doubles, four home runs and 25 RBI prior to resigning with Toronto in August.
Moss returns to Sugar Land this season after playing 23 games for the Diablos Rojos del Mexico of the Mexican League. During that span, he hit at a .343 (24×70) clip and collected five home runs and 15 RBI. Prior to joining the Mexican League this summer, Moss played 45 games with the Skeeters and maintained a .314 (55×175) average with six home runs and 31 RBI.
Nix returns to the Skeeters pitching staff following 10 appearances (nine starts) with the Chicago White Sox’ Double A Birmingham, posting a 3-4 record with a 5.64 ERA (33ER/52.2IP). He also made one start with Chicago’s Triple A Charlotte. Prior to signing with the White Sox organization in June, Nix was named the Atlantic League Pitcher of the Month in May and was 5-1 with a then-league best 1.81 ERA (9ER/44.2IP) in his first eight appearances (seven starts) with Sugar Land.
Burgamy, 32, joins Sugar Land following stops with the St. Paul Saints, the York Revolution and the Piratas de Campeche of the Mexican League, combining for a .332 (199×599) average with 41 homers and 132 RBI. Originally selected by San Diego in the ninth round of the June 2002 Draft out of Wichita State University, he has spent parts of 12 seasons with the Padres (2002-05), Phillies (2006-07) and Mets (2008) organizations. Burgamy brings four years of Atlantic League experience, having previously played with the Camden Riversharks (2009-12) and Newark Bears (2008).
