Fort Bend County Libraries invites the public to join in the “Gulf Coast Reads: On the Same Page” reading program, a community-wide reading project encouraging communities to read and discuss a particular book together. The “Gulf Coast Reads” reading initiative will kick off on September 29, and activities are planned throughout the month of October. The 2012 selection for “Gulf Coast Reads” is Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close, a novel written by Jonathan Safran Foer, which was recently made into a movie.
As a kick-off event on Saturday, September 29, Fort Bend County Libraries will present showings of the movie based on the book at three locations in the library system. Showtime is 2:00 pm, and refreshments will be served.
The movie, which is rated PG-13, will be shown at the following locations:
· George Memorial Library, 1001 Golfview in Richmond
· Sienna Branch Library, 2620 Commercial Center Blvd in Missouri City
· University Branch Library, 14010 University Blvd in Sugar Land
The novel Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close was published in 2005, and soon became a New York Times bestseller. It was made into a movie in 2012, starring Tom Hanks, Sandra Bullock, Max von Sydow, and Thomas Horn.
Book discussions on Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close will take place at different locations throughout the library system on various dates and times throughout the months of October and November.
The “Gulf Coast Reads: On the Same Page” program is a collaborative reading initiative coordinated by Fort Bend County Libraries, the Harris County Public Library System, the Brazoria County Library System, the Montgomery County Memorial Library System, the Houston Public Library, and other library and educational institutions, museums, and bookstores. This “one book, one community” reading event is designed to encourage reading and discussion of the same book at the same time, provoking dialogue among co-workers, friends, families, and classrooms.
