On June 19th, 1865, in Galveston, Texas, Union General Gordon Granger declared, “The people of Texas are informed that, in accordance with a proclamation from the Executive of the United States, all slaves are free.”
Join us 147 years later as we celebrate this historic event and the enduring African American contribution to the George Family Legacy. On June 16, observe a re-enactment of this historic declaration and chat with former African American cowboys that worked at the George Ranch in its heyday. Top off the day with a barbeque lunch and backyard rodeo just like the Annual Juneteenth Bashes that the Georges held in the 1930s.
Cost for the meal is $12.50 for adults ages 16 and older; $9 for children ages 5-15 and $4 for children 4 and under. Please call (281) 343-0218 to make reservations for the historic meal. To learn more about this event, please visit www.georgeranch.org/.
