Applications for the Sugar Land Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council are available on the City’s website at www.sugarlandtx.gov. The deadline for submitting applications is Sept. 30.
The mission of the council is to empower youth to become active members in their community by providing students with an overview of the complexity of opportunities to impact the future of Sugar Land through public service.
Members participate in fun and educational activities, tour city facilities and learn how Sugar Land’s government operates including the roles of City Council members, the city manager and other key staff. The group also serves the community through volunteer service projects.
Now in its seventh year, MYAC has been revamped and will be limited to only high school juniors in order to enhance the curriculum offered and give selected students the opportunity to more fully participate in the activities offered.
For the Class of 2012, MYAC is looking for a diverse group of teens who want to learn more about public service at the local level. Selection is competitive and enrollment limited. Members will be selected based upon their written responses to application questions, a group interview and their willingness to commit to attending monthly meetings.
Selection will also be balanced to ensure the representation of all schools and areas within Sugar Land.
