Full-time Lamar CISD employees will receive a one-time Local Health Care Supplement of $500 to offset increases in insurance premiums for the 2011-2012 school year. The Lamar CISD Board of Trustees approved the supplement Tuesday at their board meeting. The supplement is intended to reimburse employees for a portion of the additional premium amounts and health care costs they will be incurring this fiscal year.
Employees will receive the one-time payment in September. It will not be TRS eligible compensation. Part-time employees that are eligible for benefits will receive a pro-rated portion of the $500 based on the percentage of time they work.
In May, administration and the District’s insurance committee reviewed ways to maintain the financial stability of the District’s Self-Insured Health Plan.
Adjustments had to be made to Plan Benefits and premiums had to be increased due to Plan cost increases expected to exceed 15 percent (claims, prescription drugs, fees). At the same time, all school districts in Texas expected large cuts in state funding. The funding cuts meant that the District could no longer continue to absorb the bulk of increases to the Plan as it has in the past.
