On Monday, 52 Houston-area high-school students were recipients of the annual Leaders and Achievers® Scholarship Program award. 51 students received $1,000 each and Alejandro Sanchez, was awarded a $5,000 Comcast Founder Scholarship.
A total of $56,000 in scholarship funding was awarded at the recognition ceremony, held at the Federal Reserve Building. The Comcast Leaders and Achievers® Scholarship Program provides scholarships to students who excel academically, are catalysts for positive change in their communities, and who serve as models for their fellow students.
The students have participated in a wide variety of community service activities, such as volunteering at hospitals, food and clothing drives, mentoring and coaching younger students, and helping revitalize communities nation-wide.
Each year, Comcast works with high school principals, guidance counselors, and school administrators to select the scholarship recipients. Since 2001, Comcast has awarded nearly $19 million in scholarships to 19,000 students across the country.
