Man identifying himself as Richmond police officer conducting scams in local area

The Richmond Police Department has received several calls over the past few days in regards to a man identifying himself as a Richmond police officer trying to get money from people.

The man will call individuals and tell them they have a warrant, missed a court date, and/or missed jury duty. He will then tell them they need to pay a certain amount of money or they will be arrested. So far this man has identified himself as either a corporal or a captain from the Richmond City Police Department using different last names. He has gone as far as telling individuals he would meet them at the police department to receive the money.

This is a scam. Neither the Richmond Police Department nor the Richmond City Court will make such calls. If anyone receives a call from this individual please do not make arrangements to pay anything. Do not give out any personal information whatsoever. Contact your local police department and advise them of the situation. For more information, call Lt. Lowell Neinast at 281-342-2849.
