MARTIN “MARTY” VELA

MARTIN “MARTY” VELA, age 56, was born August 8, 1954 in San Benito, Texas, and left us in the arms of his loving wife, surrounded by family and friends, on Tuesday, April 5, 2011. A salesman and entrepreneur by profession, Marty found joy in his community and family. He was a mentor, youth coach, and philanthropist. Marty started a Boy Scout Troop in Stafford and served as its first Scout Master. He was a founding member of the Grand Champion Cook off team Smokie and the Bandidos where he led annual charity events for the Richmond State School, Ronald McDonald House, and Willowridge High School ROTC. He was instrumental in fundraising events for those in need. Marty was a father to many, a shoulder when needed, a helping hand when asked and a friend to all he met. He found great joy in his family especially his latest roll as Papa. Marty was the light of our life and the beat of our heart. He will be forever missed.

Marty was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mela and Martin (Patin) Vela, Gregorio and Librada Guajardo; and nephew, Robert Anthony Vela.  He is survived by his wife of thirty-four years, Laura; sons, Joseph Christopher (Gatesville, TX), Ryan Scott (San Antonio, TX), and Martin Paul and wife Michelle, and their children, Alina Marie, Uriah Gabriel, Jenna Lynn, and Aida Michelle (known to Papa as Tater Tot), all of Alvin, TX.  Also surviving him are his parents, Angelita and Roberto Vela; brothers, Robert Vela (Hope), Raymond Vela, and William Vela;  sisters, Norma Hall (Elmer), Melinda Vela, Yvette Longoria (Joe), and Yvonne Chapa; and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Marty’s family would like to thank all the family and friends for their prayers and support during this difficult time. Funeral Services were held on Tuesday,  April 12, 2011.

Funeral arrangements under the direction of Earthman Southwest Chapel 12555 S. Kirkwood, Stafford, TX 77477. 281-240-3300. 281-240-3334 Fax #. southwestchapel@yahoo.com
