Master Naturalist training to be offered this fall

July 3, 2013 by FortBendStar

The Texas Master Naturalist Program, Coastal Prairie Chapter, is now open to applicants for the Fall 2013 training program.  Would you like to know more about nature and Texas’ natural resources?  Classes and field work provide training in natural history, wildlife, and the ecosystems of the area.

The Texas Master Naturalist Program is a volunteer training program sponsored by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and AgriLife Extension.  The goal is to help improve volunteers’ understanding of natural resources and related management activities, enabling them to earn Master Naturalist certification.  Master Naturalists volunteer in their communities, providing natural resource education and participating in community service and outreach projects.

Volunteers are trained to help ensure that people will be able to enjoy the natural Texas for years to come.  A wide variety of topics are covered including bird study, botany, ecology, fish, mammals,  and soil science among others.

Classes will be held at various locations in Fort Bend County and Waller County on eight consecutive weeks on either Tuesday evenings, or during the day on Thursdays or Saturdays beginning September 7.  Applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis and class size is limited.
