Meadows Place police announced the arrest of Daryl Ray Waitschies, 24, of Stafford, for the March robbery of a woman who was leaving the Meadows Place CVS drugstore. On March 30, a 21 year old woman, who is 6 months pregnant, was attacked and dragged by a man who was trying to grab her purse as she walked out of the CVS Pharmacy at the corner of West Bellfort Avenue and Dairy Ashford Road in Meadows Place.
According to police Captain Gary Stewart, “The man grabbed her purse and pulled her down, dragging her several feet along the sidewalk before she let go of the purse.” Stewart went on to explain that much of the incident was captured by the store’s video system. He said, once the video and still photos were released to the Houston metropolitan media, Crime Stoppers tips began to roll in.
Stewart said as the investigation unfolded police learned that the same man might be a suspect in similar crimes in Houston. Just days later a Harris County Crime Stoppers tip, that was forwarded to the Meadows Place Police and Houston Police, led to the identification and arrest of Waitschies.
Waitschies was initially arrested on 2 outstanding traffic warrants out of Harris County Precinct 7 Constable’s Office. He was arrested by Meadows Place police and officers from the Houston Police Department Westside Tactical Unit on the afternoon of April 5, 2011, in the Mission Bend area of west Harris County. Waitschies is currently being held in the City of Houston jail and remains under investigation for other crimes there.
Captain Stewart said, “Waitschies has confessed to the robbery in Meadows Place and a warrant for the offense of Robbery (2nd degree felony) was issued by Fort Bend County on April 6, 2011.” Once Waitschies has completed his commitment with Harris County he is expected to be transferred to Fort Bend County.
