Missouri City moves closer to increased recycling

MCMovesFor many years, trash collection in Missouri City was handled on a neighborhood-by-neighborhood basis.

That will change soon as the city signed a city-wide seven-year contract with WCA to begin service on Jan. 1.

City officials say that it will bring a 75 percent savings. It’s also expected to bring recycling to a higher level in the city.

WCA officials predict it will increase from the current level of 3 percent to 50 person over the next seven years.

Don Johnson of Missouri City Green has partnered with the city to increase awareness for recycling.

“The several hundred people who came to our electronic recycling events and the sixty to seventy people who came to our composting classes are the most likely to support it,” Johnson said. “ I have also had numerous conversations with people in the community who are also excited about it.”
