Missouri City is one of a select few cities in the country to earn its 24th consecutive Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada. The group noted that the City succeeded in preparing and presenting a budget of the highest quality for the July 1, 2010 fiscal year.
In recognition of the prestigious achievement, the Finance Department was honored by City Council at its April 4 meeting. “I want our citizens to know that this City is in great shape financially and staff does an outstanding job with the budget and the resources we have,” Mayor Allen Owen said while presenting the award to Finance Director Wes Vela. “Only about five percent of cities receive this award, so I think that speaks well of our City.”
Missouri City met stringent national guidelines for effective budget presentation to qualify for the award.
