I was genuinely surprised that two Missouri City residents complaints about the City’s golf course operations was given front page coverage in your Feb 22 issue. There are thousands of property owners/ residents/voters who support the City’s decision to operate these courses. So I find it unusual that your paper would give these two such major negative publicity.
These golf courses, as are all 22 city parks, are for the benefit of all residents. The city has a broad spectrum of park facilities for the many varied interests of its citizens. Be it softball fields, soccer fields, walking trails, lakes, fishing, etc.
Voters overwhelmingly supported expenditures for acquiring the golf courses and the Community Center/Pro Shop and Tennis/Rec Center projects. Property values all over the city have risen as a result of all of these park improvements. The resulting increase in tax revenues supports the operation of the entire parks department. The golf courses are the only park facilities that will pay its own way. The City’s financial records are open for all to see.
So I believe the naysayers need to accept the will of the people and enjoy all of our great park amenities.
