In August, the University Branch Library’s “Monday Night Movies at the Library” series features family-friendly favorites. The movies begin at 6:00 pm every Monday in August, and will be shown in the Small Meeting Room of the University Branch Library, located at 14010 University Blvd. in Sugar Land, on the UH campus.
The first movie of the month will be shown on Monday, August 6. This animated feature stars Steve Carell as Gru, an evil villain who is determined to steal the moon. His wicked plans are thwarted, however, when he encounters the immense will of three orphaned girls who look at him and see something that no one else has seen – a potential dad. This movie is rated PG.
The movie on Monday, August 13, is a remake of a 1961 Disney comedy. Robin Williams takes on the role originated by Fred MacMurray of a bumbling professor who accidentally invents an anti-gravity material that gains energy every time it strikes a hard surface. Unfortunately, no one is interested in the material except a corrupt businessman who wants to steal it for himself. This film is rated PG.
On Monday, August 20, movie-goers will be treated to a comedy starring Rick Moranis as a suburban scientist who invents an electronic magnetic shrinking machine. When his children are accidentally zapped by their father’s invention, they find themselves at eye-level with the ants. The children begin a thrill-filled adventure of “size”-mic proportions as they try to avoid being stepped on by their parents, eaten by the family dog, or shredded by a menacing lawnmower. This film is rated PG.
The movie on Monday, August 27, combines action, adventure and science-fiction. Michael J. Fox plays a 1980s teenager who is transported back in time to 1955, where he accidentally changes the course of history through a series of comic misadventures. This movie is rated PG.
