Early Tuesday morning at about 3 am., law enforcement officers were called to the scene of a fatality accident on US59 near Williams Way Boulevard in Fort Bend County between the city limits of Sugar Land and Rosenberg.
Trooper K. King was the officer in charge of the scene. According to Trooper King, his investigation revealed that a 2007 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Gary Loftin, 21, of Fort Bend County was traveling southbound the northbound lanes of US 59. The first calls about the Malibu traveling in the wrong lanes of traffic were from Stafford police to Sugar Land police. According to authorities, police were scouring the highway in an effort to locate the Malibu but the impact occurred before they could found it. When the crash occurred, the Malibu operated by Lofton hit the vehicle driven by Jeanne Cinquegrana, 42, head-on. She was air lifted to Hermann Memorial in Houston for medical treatment; her injured is were reported as critical.
At press time the accident was still under investigation but it is possible that alcohol may have been a contributing factor. An open container was found in Lofton’s car.
