“Moving from elementary school to middle school is an easy transition,” according to my twin Justine. Justine says, “It’s just so crazy the new things. I mean everything is great, but it’s just so different.” I have to agree. They are both so different from each other because middle school gives us so much more freedom.
“In elementary school we had to wear certain colors of clothes: that’s so not cool. I like the freedom to wear what I want with just a few rules on the matter,” says Kaitlyn in my P.E. class. I have to agree with her too. We get so much freedom in middle school. We get to wear a lot of the things we like and we don’t have to walk in straight lines everywhere we go. There are also a lot of new things: new teachers, new classrooms, new people, new everything, but the main thing is the new building.
Sydney in my theater arts class tells me, “I love the new building. It’s so fun; it’s like a maze … I love mazes!” Now, I don’t like mazes as much as she does, but I do agree with the building being great! The teams we have all have classrooms close to each other, but it’s still like a maze.
The only thing I think some people have problems with is adjusting, but after the first couple weeks we figured out what to do. Christopher in my reading and E.L.A. class says, “I had to adjust to using my agenda more and using my time in the hall wisely.” He was very wise when he said that.
Mrs. Farris, my social studies teacher, says, “I think students need to get used to using their agendas more and used to time management.” All I know is we definitely have to use our agendas and if we don’t get used to time management we will be counted tardy.
Ericson in my math class thinks, “I learned that I need to study more.” Mrs. Bryson, my science teacher, agrees with Ericson, “You guys have to get used to studying.” It’s true if we don’t study it will hurt us a lot more than it did last year.
Adjusting to sixth grade isn’t too hard after students get used to it, but if students don’t learn to adjust it will be a hard year.
All in all, I think everyone agrees that middle school is great and not too hard to adjust to, even though elementary was pretty great too.
