Murder suspect calls 911– confesses

October 5, 2011 by FortBendStar

In Richmond last Saturday evening truth turned out to be stranger than fiction.

According to Richmond PD Master Sergeant Lowell Neinast, about 8:45 pm Saturday, Richmond police officers responded to a shots fired call at the Brazos Bend Villa Apartments located at 2020 Rocky Falls. When Corporal Robert Oliver arrived on the scene he found a man inside an apartment suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

As officers worked the crime scene, a 911 call came into the police department about 9:20 that same evening. Reportedly, that call provided all the suspect information the police needed; the caller told the 911 operator he had shot a man and wanted to turn himself in.

The man who called police and reported himself to be the shooter has been identified as 26 year old Omar Jorge Ramos of Richmond. According to Neinast, Ramos told police that he and the victim, Jeremy Aaron Ramirez, 23, also of Richmond, had been involved in an a disturbance earlier in the evening at a business on Collins Road, also located in Richmond. Police had responded to that incident but as no crime had been committed, they separated the two and sent them on their way. Neinast said the exchange between the two was over a woman. Ramirez is believed to have left the Collins Road incident and gone to the apartments on Rocky Falls.

“Shortly after 8:30 pm, Ramos showed up at the apartment Ramirez was visiting, forced his way past the female resident of the apartment, and shot Ramirez multiple times,” said Neinast. Before police could arrive at the shooting scene, Ramos left and returned to his home, then called to surrender himself. Neinast said Omar Jorge Ramos was arrested without incident and charged with Murder, a First Degree Felony.

He was transported to the Fort Bend County Jail where he is being held on bond.
