Eugenia “GeeGee” Ann Beaumont Stokes, 79, died November 5, 2008, at Sugar Land Health Care Center,
Sugar Land, Texas, of kidney failure.
GeeGee was born December 4, 1928 in Kansas City, Missouri where she was raised from age 5 by her aunt after her parents died. She received her baccalaureate degree from William Jewel College, Liberty, Missouri, where she was trained as an archivist. GeeGee married on September 3,
1949 and she and her husband were together 51 years until his death in 2000. She and her husband lived in Ames, Anamosa, and McGregor, Iowa; Philadelphia, Mississippi; Waycross and Macon, Georgia before finally settling in Urbandale, Iowa in 1960 where she lived for 47 years. She retired as an
Avon Representative after over 40 years. She moved to Texas in 2007 to be near her daughter when her health declined. She was active with Alpha Gamma Delta sorority, a member of Douglas Avenue Presbyterian, Des Moines, Iowa and attended many 10th Mountain Division reunions with her husband,
and continued even after his death. She was an avid reader, enjoyed crossword puzzles, genealogy, dining out with friends and family, collecting recipes, and traveling.
GeeGee is survived by her daughter Janice (David) Elias, Richmond, Texas, her son, Jeff (Linda) Stokes, Kentwood, Michigan and her brother, George (Carolea) Beaumont, Overland Park, Kansas, grandson, John Elias, Richmond, Texas, and granddaughters Ashley Stokes (fiancÈ Steve Reidy),
Las Vegas, Nevada, Emily Stokes, Kentwood, Michigan, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Morris Stokes, her parents Helen Haydon and Taney Justice Beaumont, Jr., and brother, Taney Justice Beaumont, III, and her aunt, M. Eugenia “Jinks” Haydon.
The family would like to thank the staff of Greatwood Retirement and Assisted Living, Sugar Land Health Care Center, Shiva Satish, M.D., and Jeff Jones, P.A., and A-Med Hospice staff for their kindness, support, and caring in her final months.
The body has been cremated. A memorial service will held in Kansas City, Kansas, around Thanksgiving Memorial contributions may be made to Douglas Avenue Presbyterian Church, Des Moines, Iowa, A-Med Hospice, Houston Texas or the library of your choice.
