Glenn Michael (Mike) Austin, Sr. veteran Fort Bend County printing and advertising executive died Tuesday (July 8, 2009) at the Michael
DeBakey Veterans Hospital in Houston after suffering a heart attack.
His life was cele-brated with a Rosary Mass Sunday at the Sugar Creek Country Club, with Msgr. Frank Rossi presiding and with a funeral mass Monday at St. Michael’s Church in Houston.
He was born June 22, 1947 in Lake Charles, LA., son of Lambert and Eva, who survive him.
A second generation printer, Austin moved to Texas in 1966 to enter the University of Houston. The Vietnam War interrupted his quest for a degree in Business Administration. He served in the U.S. Army as a cryptographer from 1967 to 1970.
While a student at the University of Houston, he went to work for one of the largest printing companies in Houston. He became a vice president and sales manager of this firm.
Encouraged by one of the major oil companies, Austin formed his own company, the Austin Press & Advertising in Stafford. The company grew to include three major oil companies as well as two large perfume accounts out of New York.
He is a past president of the Houston Lithographers Assn. and he currently serves as vice president. He also is a Vice President of the U. of H. Athletic Foundation and a member of that board.
A former resident of Sugar Creek, Austin served on the board of directors and as president of the Sugar Creek Country Club.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his four children, a daughter Jennifer and her husband Matt Corbett, his daughter Michelle and her husband Robert Ross, his daughter Mikaela Austin, and his son, G. Michael Austin Jr. He also is survived by his grandchildren Tatum and
James Corbett and Robert Austin Ross.
Interment was in Houston National Cemetery.
