Charles
Angevine Hutchinson, Jr. ,
died December 5, 2005 at his home. Chuck was born June 27,
1923, in Boulder, Colorado, the son of Charles and Isabel
and older brother to Tom and Jim. Chuck attended the
University of Colorado where he received a bachelor degree
and two masters degrees in engineering. He served in the
United States Navy during World War II in the Atlantic
theatre. After the war, he married Rosa Smith in 1947, with
whom he had four children, Chuck III, Judi, Susan, and John.
Chuck married Maxine Coker in 1974. He is survived by Max,
Rosa, his four children and their spouses, Max’s daughter
Lisa Biggars and her husband, twelve grandchildren, and four
great grandchildren.
After his love for his family, Chuck’s
greatest joy in life came from the beauty of the outdoors in
his native Colorado and his adopted home of Texas. Whether
leading high school buddies up the Boulder Flatirons in the
middle of the night, snow skiing down barely groomed slopes
in the National Park, water skiing in the Texas hill
country, deep sea fishing in the Gulf of Mexico or playing
golf at his home in Sugar Creek, Chuck reveled in outdoor
life and activity. Together with his father and his
brothers, he formed the Rocky Mountain Rescue
organization—still in existence today as one of the premier
outdoor rescue operations in the country.
Chuck began his career as a petroleum
engineer with Atlantic Oil in Dallas, moving into management
as manager of international exploration, and district
manager of South and East Texas. In 1976, he rose to the top
of his profession when he was elected to serve as the
President of the international Society of Petroleum
Engineers. Chuck later ran his own independent oil
exploration company, MC Resources. After retiring from the
petroleum business in 1988, he became a successful realtor
in Fort Bend County and was named Fort Bend County Realtor
of the Year in 1994. Chuck then began his final and probably
favorite career, teaching real estate classes to new and
continuing realtors. He continued to love teaching until
just months before his death.
The family would like to thank the
doctors and nurses at M.D. Anderson, and particularly the
dedicated and kind personnel with the Houston Hospice. In
lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made
to the Charles A Hutchinson Jr Memorial Fund, c/o University
of Colorado Foundation, P.O. Box 1726, Denver, CO 80217.
A gathering of family and friends to
celebrate Chuck’s life will be held in the Garden Room at
the Sugar Creek Country Club on Sugar Creek Blvd. Friday,
December 9, from 1:30 to 4:30.
