Michael Dwain Summerlin, 59, of Missouri
City, passed away on December 5, 2005. He attended Queen of
Peace Catholic School and graduated from LaMarque HS in
1964. He received a BS degree in Secondary Science Education
from Lamar University in 1970 and an MS degree in
Instructional Technology from UH-Clear Lake in 2000. He
taught science at Sam Rayburn HS from 1970-1973. He then
worked for several engineering companies in material control
and procurement. He taught science at St. Vincent de Paul
School in Houston in 1985, at Stafford HS from 1986-91, and
at Alief Elsik HS from 1991-96. He was an Instructional
Technology Specialist for Elsik from 1996-2003.
He received numerous awards during his
career, including Teacher of the Year for Stafford in 1989
and for Phi Delta Kappa in 1990. He was a member of Phi
Delta Kappa, Phi Kappa Phi, Association of Texas
Professional Educators, and several physics, chemistry and
technology teacher organizations.
He is survived by his wife, Daneta; children, Ty, Tara,
and Todd and their families; mother, Mary; brother, Paul;
sister, Karen; and in-laws, nieces, and nephews.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Sat., Jan. 21, at 11:00
a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, 1510 Fifth Street,
Missouri City. Donations may be made to the Leukemia and
Lymphoma Society or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
