On September 20, the U.S. Senate passed a resolution designating October as National Medicine Abuse Awareness Month. Fort Bend ISD’s Safe and Drug Free Schools Department and the Fort Bend County Prevention Coalition (FBCPC) joins school districts and agencies across the nation in promoting activities to increase national attention and help spread awareness of prescription and over-the-counter medicine abuse among teens.
In September, FBISD and the FBCPC joined the District’s Police Department in sponsoring the annual Drug Enforcement Administration’s National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day. The event reminds the public of the free service to assist households in safely disposing of expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs that could cause potential danger to children and teens.
This year, Fort Bend ISD residents contributed to the success of the Drug Take-Back Day by dropping off more than 218 pounds of unwanted prescription drugs at the Mercer Stadium site.
