Oladipo breaks another discus record at District 20-6A meet

Gabriel Oladipo, a senior at Hightower, broke the discus record at the District 20-6A meet last week with a throw of 206 feet. He also won the shot put with a toss of 62 feet 11 inches, also a record.

“I have had a lot of success this spring,” Oladipo said. “But I keep trying to throw farther.”

Other winners in the boys’ division were Agim Chidera, a sophomore at Ridge Point who won the 100 meters in 11.24 seconds, and Zach Martin, a junior at Travis, won the 200 meters in 22.49, and the 400 meters in 48.17 seconds, a new personal record.

In the longer distances, Kirkland Haywood, a senior at Dulles, won the 800 meters in 1:57.99, Brihunan Sundararaman, a junior at Clements, won the 1,600 meters in 4:39.28, and Edward Njuguna, a junior at Travis, won the 3,200 meters in 10:16.96, a new personal record.

In the hurdles, Coleman Cornelius, a senior at Hightower, won the 110-meter hurdles in 15.06 seconds, and Jacob Mangum-Farrar, a junior at Kempner, won the 300-meter hurdles in 40.22.

In the relays, Ridge Point won the 4X100 meters relay in 42.2 seconds, Hightower won the 4X200 meter relays in 1:29.36, and Ridge Point won the 4X400 meters in 3:22.50.

In the field events, Oladipo won the shot put with a toss of 62 feet, 11 inches, and the discus with a throw of 206 feet, 0 inches.

In the high jump, Jonathan Oradieg, a junior at Austin, won with a leap of 6 feet, 2 inches, and Justin Brannon, a freshman at Clements, won the pole vault with a jump of 12 feet, 6 inches.

In the long jump, Naveon Mitchell, a junior at Travis, won with a leap of 21 feet, 11 inches, and Matthew Okoyes, a senior at Austin, won the triple jump with a jump of 45 feet, 9.25 seconds.

For the girls, Mitchelle Aneke, a senior at Hightower, won the 100 meters in 12.58 seconds, Taylor Finley, a junior at Hightower, won the 200 meters in 25.19 seconds, and Laila Owens, a freshman at Bush, won the 400 meters in 55.81 seconds.

In the middle distances, Murphy Dinah, a senior at Bush, won the 800 meters in 2:18.72, a new personal record. Katie Straub, a freshman at Travis, won the 1,600 meters in 5:24.13, and the 3,200 meters in 11:53.38.

In the hurdles, Shelling Chelsie, a sophomore at Ridge Point, won the 100-meter hurdles in 14.85 seconds, and Imari Chatman, a sophomore at Hightower, won the 300 meter hurdles in 45.44 seconds, a new personal record.

In the relays, Hightower was dominant as the winner in the 4X100 relays in 46.96 seconds, the 4X200 relays in 1:39.68, and the 4X400 relays in 3:48.58.

In the field events, Isioma Okeleke, a senior at Austin, won the shot put with a throw of 37 feet, 5 inches, a new personal record, and Shelby Johnson, a junior at Clements, won the discus with a toss of 106 feet, 1 inch.

In the high jump, Hawa Hague, a senior at Austin, won with a jump of 5 feet 4 inches, and Bristi Shrestha, Austin, won the pole vault with a jump of 9 feet to win.

Adrianna Tillman, a junior at Austin, won the long jump with a jump of 17 feet, 11.75 inches, and Lauren Clarke, a junior at Travis, won the triple jump with a jump of 37 feet, 3.5 inches.
