To help plan for the future of Fort Bend ISD, more than 500 attended a Community Dialogue meeting making it the highest attended forum in recent FBISD history. Those participating in the meeting were very positive and highly engaged in discussions leading to plans and recommendations that will ultimately be presented to the FBISD Board of Trustees in early 2014.
Fort Bend ISD needs your help to prepare for the District’s continued growth, as well as the current and future needs of our students. We are partnering with the FBISD community to develop a strategic plan and a facilities master plan. Both will provide a roadmap for planning for educational programs and facilities improvements for the foreseeable future. We expect to finalize the plans in early 2014. At that time, the plans and recommendations will be presented to the Board and will help them make decisions to deal with the needs of the District.
Throughout the community, some have referred to these Community Dialogue Meetings as “rezoning” meetings. It is important to note that some of the options considered include the idea of rezoning various schools; however, the planning process will not include specific boundary suggestions. A rezoning process takes place when new schools are constructed or repurposed, or when it is necessary to relieve overcrowding at a school due to growth, but how any rezoning would take place is not for us to decide at the moment. Any rezoning will take place at a later time, with community feedback. For now, it is our goal to determine how to best use district facilities to meet educational needs throughout the district.
