We live in a fast paced world going from one activity to another. Within the framework of the family, we often overlook the needs of our children and replace them with wants. Frequently this results in a break in connectivity with parents and children. It’s easier to give them what they want rather than what they need.
“Parenting Connections” is a series of parenting education presentations that will help parents understand children – why they do what they do. Child Growth and Development is the first lesson focusing on the physical and mental abilities of children at specific ages.
Positive Discipline concentrates on teaching children how to behave using positive strategies, eliminating negative reactions to children’s behavior. All too frequently parents lose their temper and aggressive parental behavior comes to the forefront.
Parent-Child Communication teaches the parent how to communicate with their children. Working parents, parents who have other interests, children too involved in extra curricular activities or just trying to keep up with school work have less time to have conversation time among the family members.
Developing Your Child’s Self Esteem is the final lesson of the series. Positive interaction is essential in developing your child’s self esteem. A healthy self esteem improves the child’s potential in success at school and later in life at developing a career and raising their own families.
