About 1:45 am, Sunday morning, police were called to investigate a shooting at the Brittney Square apartment at 4720 Reading Road in Rosenberg. When officers arrived on the scene they discovered two shooting victims. One, who has been identified as Wayne Smith, 18, a resident of the complex. and 29 year old Ty Tuttle of Richmond. According to Rosenberg public information officer Lieutenant Colin Davidson, both men were transported to Oak Bend Hospital. Smith remains in critical condition. Tuttle was transported to Memorial Hermann in Houston where at press time he was in stable condition.
Although police are still trying to gather details of what happened that night, Davidson said, “According to witnesses, Tuttle was involved in an altercation with several individuals that night in the parking lot.” The man who brandished the shotgun has been identified as Laurence Gibson, a resident of the apartment complex, said Davidson. Although details are sketchy, witnesses say that Lawrence got the gun to confront Tuttle and several other individuals who were not residents of the complex. It is reported that Smith’s shooting was a case of mistaken identity. He and Gibson are friends and reportedly, Smith was coming to help Gibson and the others at the party.
In yet another twist to a bizarre incident, according to county records, Ty Tuttle was scheduled to be in District court on Monday, January 9, 2012 for several outstanding charges of evading arrest. Reportedly he and a teenaged female, who was also at the Rosenberg shooting scene Sunday morning, are both facing charges relating to the evading cases from last summer. The allegations in the paperwork are that Tuttle ran from DPS and local law enforcement numerous times last summer on a motorcycle, then his female friend would go pick him up so he could elude police.
At press time Tuttle and Smith are both still in their respecting hospitals. Gibson has bonded out of the Fort Bend County jail on 2 charges of aggravated assault and Rosenberg police are still sorting out all the details to make sure the right people eventually end up in jail.
