Pretty in Pink raises funds for Fort Bend County residents

The community charity event, Pretty in Pink—Town Square, raised more than $103,000 to benefit local cancer patients through the Methodist Sugar Land Hospital (MSLH) Cancer fund.

Presenting sponsors, Breast Surgeons – Dr. Sandra Templeton & Dr. Kelly Dempsey joined a wide range of other sponsors and donors to make Pretty in Pink a huge success.

“I am honored to be a part of this important event,” said Dr. Templeton, Breast Surgeon. “It was a great way to give back to the community and help bring awareness to the difficulties that so many patients face as they battle cancer. I especially like the fact that all money donated will stay at our hospital and relieve some of my patients’ financial burdens.”

At the event, keynote speaker Gail Parker said, “The fact that my hospital, my doctors and my community put on this event means the world to me. It is awe-inspiring to see our community come out to support such a great cause.”

“As a breast surgeon I see the financial toll a cancer diagnosis can take on my patients. Raising money for the MSLH cancer fund gives me the opportunity to help my patients on a different level.” says Dr. Kelly Dempsey, Breast Surgeon. ” It was amazing to see the community come out and support the event. It was a great turn out, which helped us raise more money for the cancer fund.”

“We wanted to create a fund where our patients could directly benefit from our efforts.  Cancer patients often incur extra costs related to their condition, and in many cases, they can’t work for extended periods of time,” said Leena Taneja, sponsorship chair and director of physician relations at Methodist Sugar Land Hospital.  “While the fund cannot pay Methodist directly for medical bills, it can help pay for other non-hospital related costs such as medical equipment, medications, dentistry, car payments, house payments, wigs etc.  Our hope is to make the fight against cancer a bit less financially stressful for our patients.”

“Pretty in Pink was a great example of how we can come together as a community to help others in need,” said Taneja. “We look forward to seeing the funds raised help those fighting cancer in our community.”

Organizers send a heartfelt thank you to our volunteers, presenting sponsors, Dr. Dempsey and Dr. Templeton, along with all of the Pretty in Pink sponsors
