Rep. Pete Olson responds to government shut-down

October 3, 2013 by FortBendStar

Rep. Pete Olson (TX-22) asked why Democrat Leaders in Washington are willing to shut down the federal government instead of holding themselves to the same laws as the rest of America.

“Really? The President and Harry Reid believe they are more important than the American people? Really? The Senate and President Obama can’t even accept one simple provision that puts them on Obamacare?  If it’s good enough for the rest of America, why isn’t it good enough for them?
“Yet, Democrat leaders refuse to even negotiate over a basic concept of fairness. It’s deplorable that they feel they can take freedom away from Americans while holding themselves above everyone else.”

The House has voted three times to keep the government open, and we’ve voted to ensure that Members of Congress live by the same rules as all Americans.  The Democrat-led Senate voted to shut the government down instead of putting themselves on Obamacare.

The House has acted to protect the American people from a government shutdown and an unworkable law – but the Senate refuses to compromise. House Republicans are asking the Senate to meet to listen to the voice of the people, negotiate a solution and reopen the government. It’s time for the Senate to join us at the negotiating table to achieve fairness for all.

Really? The Republican congressman would have us believe the Democratic Party shut down the government? Really?

Really? The Republican House didn’t just pick a random law they collectively don’t like and use it to hold the whole country hostage? Really?

If Mr. Olson believes the residents of District 22 are ignorant enough to believe his above statement, I can’t wait for the Republican primary.
