The Republicans held a meeting last week for candidates and elected officials to discuss the Fleming situation (See story elsewhere in this website). The meeting was scheduled to be held in a justice of the peace courtroom within eyesight of the new Justice Center in Richmond.
As the meeting began and Party Chair Mike Gibson realized that “Fort Bend Star” reporter LeaAnne Klentzman was in their mist, instead of offering her a welcome, Gibson asked her to leave.
The” Star” reporter respectfully declined to leave, pointing out that the meeting was for elected officials and was being held in a public building at a cost to the taxpayers.
After the reporter refused to leave, the county chair, Mike Giblson declared, “Well, we’ll just leave.” During the time Gibson was trying to get the reporter to leave, Fort Bend County Clerk Diane Wilson said to Gibson, “Mike, we,” indicating District Clerk Annie Rebecca Elliott, Tax Assessor Patsy Schultz, State District Judge James (Jim) Shoemake, and Precinct 1 Constable AJ Dorr, “are all comfortable with the media being present.”
Gibson was clearly unhappy because he said they might discuss issues that were not for the public, whereupon he stalked off and the officials slinked off to meet at a lawyer’s office nearby. So the group abandoned the taxpayers’ complex and drove around the corner to a local lawyer’s office. Judging from the pile of cars parked in the driveway, the yard and along the street, the Republicans held another secret meeting about the “Fleming situation.”
