Dear Mayor and others,
I live in a proposed city of Rosenberg annex area.
If you take part in allowing the proposed annexation to pass you will be destroying our way of life? We are not freeloaders nor back woods hillbillies that need to be brought into the city to be civilized. We are taxpaying county residents that have chosen not to be inside the city for various reasons. We enjoy our freedoms that being inside the city limits would severely restrict.
Many of my neighbors are retired on a fixed income. Several are taking care of parents or spouses in the waning years of their lives due to age or illness. While others are young married couples just starting out their lives as new parents and fight from pay check to pay check to pay their bills. If the city takes over and burdens these families with additional taxes and fees it could be the tipping point for many.
You have attempted to scare us with losing our fire service agreement with Rosenberg Fire Department. Which, thanks to them, we pay higher than normal insurance premiums due to their horrible service rating. But we are not stupid people. We realize this is all for the water! You may try and appease us by saying we have the option to tie into the city water and sewer but we all know that by 2015 all residents living in the city limits must tie in and CAP their existing private wells.
At that point the City of Rosenberg would stand to gain hundreds of thousands of dollars from tap fees. Your proposed water loop can pass right on by… leave our wells alone!
Regarding the fire service agreement … we will be happy to enter into an agreement with Rosenberg, but if not you other departments stand in wait to enter into negotiations. And, if not them, we will take care of our own and create a VFD if necessary. We can and will band together as a county community and solve our problems just as our forefathers did before us.
Allow our freedom of choice to continue with no annexation!
