Rosenberg man facing multiple felonies involving three police agencies
An incident that began in the Walmart parking lot on FM 1640 in Richmond, ended with the arrest of the suspect by Sugar Land police at Hwy. 90 and US 59. The suspect identified as 30-year-old Joey Ray Diaz of Rosenberg, has been charged with numerous felonies.
The incident began shortly before 3 p.m. on March 7 when Diaz took a purse from a lady in the Walmart parking lot. Diaz began running with the stolen purse only to be confronted by another woman who grabbed the purse as Diaz ran by. Diaz dropped the purse and entered the second woman’s vehicle and demanded that he get her keys. The woman pepper sprayed Diaz and refused to give up her keys.
After several people came to help, Diaz exited that vehicle and ran to Murphy Oil in front of Walmart. At Murphy Oil Diaz pulled a man from a vehicle as the man was getting gas. Diaz took the man’s vehicle and drove away.
Diaz crashed the stolen vehicle in the 4500 block of South Main Street in Stafford and took another vehicle by force. Diaz crashed the second stolen vehicle and attempted to take two more vehicles before he was apprehended by Sugar Land police at the intersection of Hwy. 90 and US 59.
Diaz is facing charges from Richmond, Stafford, and Sugar Land police departments. Diaz was placed in the Fort Bend County Jail facing three counts of robbery and one count of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle from Richmond. Diaz could face more charges as the investigation continues.
