RUNAWAY SCRAPE at George Ranch Historical Park

A Mexican soldado (soldier) checks the body of a dead Texian as a cavalryman looks on during a battle re-enactment of the Runaway Scrape, held Saturday at George Ranch Historical Park. The annual re-enactment depicts the flight of Anglo settlers as they fled eastward from the Mexican army that was in pursuit of the Texas Army under Gen. Sam Houston. The War for Texas Independence came to an end April 21 at San Jacinto. That annual re-enactment will take place at the monument in Houston on April 22.
