Sartartia Middle School Greenhouse Classroom is an innovative approach to reaching students and inspiring a lifelong love of learning. The greenhouse structure will serve as an educational tool illustrating the proper use of earth’s resources and as an extension of the classroom. This living classroom will be used by teachers to offer students hands-on experiences when studying ecology, environmental stewardship, plant lifecycle, renewable energy, nutrition and much more.
So, the greenhouse will increase the students’ science comprehension. But even more, the students in the Life Skills and Adaptive Behavior classes can use this greenhouse to learn the science of gardening as well as the skills needed to grow and maintain plants. Since these students love the outdoors, this is a great opportunity for them.
The SMS PTO was able to purchase the greenhouse for the school and the supplies to start the program and the Earth Box© curriculum were received through a grant from the Fort Bend Education Foundation. This is also an opportunity for the Life Skills and Adaptive Behavior students to give back to the community by sharing the produce with a local food bank.
Stop by the school and watch this amazing program impact all the students at SMS.
