Recently, Suburban Houston Fort Bend Alumnae Chapter awarded over $21,000 in scholarships to 11 outstanding Fort Bend County high school seniors during the chapter’s annual May Week Luncheon Celebration.
The May Week luncheon is held each year to celebrate the accomplishments of Fort Bend youth who have participated in various sorority programs and activities throughout the year. Some of the chapter’s activities include programs for middle school girls Delta Academy), high school girls (Delta GEMs) and boys ages eleven to seventeen (EMBODI). The programs mentor, train and promote leadership amongst the youth.
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is a private non-profit organization founded in 1913 at Howard University. Its goals are directed toward promoting community services and programs that impact human welfare. The membership exceeds 200,000 of predominately African American, college educated women in more than one thousand chapters, located in forty-four states and several foreign countries.
