Second Mile Mission Center held its 9th annual banquet and silent auction at Safari Texas Ranch on April 19. The event honored supporters and served as Second Mile’s biggest fundraising event of the year, raising funds to help men, women and children across Fort Bend County with basic physical needs.
Vacation getaways, boxer puppies and autographed sports memorabilia were just a few of a room full of donated auction items bid on by the crowd of 400 guests.
Musical guest and speaker Jimmy McNeal from The Austin Stone Community Church spoke to the banquet theme of “Empower” and the impact of loving your neighbor. McNeal is a former American Idol contestant and works closely with outreach ministries to serve those in need in Austin.
Board chairman Jamey Webster gave special recognition to past board chairman Steve Manz, who served from 2008 to 2012. Webster also announced the Hall of Faith, which will honor those who have made significant leadership contributions to Second Mile. Jim Bridges, who has provided critical support and served on Second Mile’s board for 10 years, was announced as the first inductee into the Hall of Faith.
“Every day around 40 families come through our doors with a great need,” said Sarah White, Second Mile’s Executive Director. “The compassion of people like Jim Bridges and Steve Manz and Second Mile’s many other supporters is the reason we can renew hope for thousands of men, women and children in crisis.”
