When instant gratification seems to be a way of life for our teens, students from the Elkins Football Team, volunteered their time with Youth Achieving through Service and Sports, Inc. (YASS Inc.) and The Houston Parks Department, for some seed sewing that’s sure to bring about a brighter future.
Jawuan Rogers, Geramy Morrissette, Dajon Griffin and Zack Bamijoko joined youth from other organizations to plant seeds along the W. Orem Esplanades in Southwest Houston, Saturday morning Oct. 8 on their bye week of the football season.
Senior Linebacker Bamijoko said “the seed planting event gave us a clear prospective of how life really works; everything starts with the input of a seed and nothing happen overnight.” The “Players” were pleasant, worked diligently, and were greatly appreciated, says Dave DeMaster of The Houston Parks Department.
With the seeds scheduled to blossom this spring, these four seniors plan to make this a year they never forget.
