Fort Bend County Libraries’ Sienna Branch Library will feature a free Summer Movie Series beginning in June. A different family movie will be shown each Tuesday evening in the Large Meeting Room of the library, located at 8411 Sienna Springs Blvd in Missouri City.
The movie series will begin on Tuesday, June 5, with an action-adventure film starring Dwayne Johnson as a Las Vegas cab driver who picks up two very special passengers – young siblings who happen to have paranormal powers. The children must get back to their space ship, which is trapped inside a mountain where strange phenomena is known to occur. If the pair does not get to their ship in time, an alien invasion will begin. Showtime is 6:30 pm. This movie is rated PG.
The series continues on Tuesday, June 12, with a comedy based on a book by Lois Duncan in which two orphaned teenagers decide to turn an abandoned building into a safe haven for stray dogs. The movie stars Emma Roberts, Jake Austin, Don Cheadle, and Lisa Kudrow. Showtime is 6:30 pm. This movie is rated PG.
The animated-adventure film on Tuesday, June 19, is based on a children’s book written by Judi Barrett. Flint Lockwood is a young inventor, but none of his inventions have ever been useful or even made sense. When his community falls into an economic decline after the closure of the local sardine cannery, Flint decides to try his latest invention – a machine that turns water into food.
Something goes terribly wrong, however, when his device ends up in the atmosphere and begins raining food down upon the Earth. Showtime is 6:30 pm. This movie is rated PG.
The last movie of the month will be shown on Tuesday, June 26. Based on a book by Louis Sachar, the movie stars Sigourney Weaver, Jon Voight, and Shia LaBeouf as Stanley Yelnats IV. Accused of stealing a pair of cleats, Stanley is sent to a juvenile facility at Camp Green Lake (a dry lake bed in the middle of the desert), where it hasn’t rained for 100 years. Each inmate must spend every day digging one hole to “build character.” When an artifact from the famous “Kissin’ Kate” Barlow is found in a hole, the warden forces the boys to work double time, leading Stanley to suspect they must be digging for something in particular. Could the mystery of Camp Green Lake be connected to Stanley’s family curse? Showtime is 6:30 pm. This movie is rated PG.
All of the movies are free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served. For more information about the featured movies, call the branch library at 281-238-2900 or the library’s Public Information Office at 281-341-2677.
