Sienna Plantation Girl Scout Cadette Troop 3706 collected more than 200 books written in Spanish for an orphanage in the Dominican Republic. This orphanage was badly in need of books, but did not have the resources to purchase them. One girl was so desperate for reading material that she read the same story repeatedly as there were no other books available.
Troop 3706 would like to thank those who supported this effort. In particular, the leadership of the Girl Scout Yellow Rose Service Unit provided invaluable support by promoting this project to the unit membership, resulting in several area troops collecting books to donate. The Spanish book drive is one of seven service projects completed by Troop 3706 during the 10/11 academic year. The other projects have benefited US Troops in Afghanistan, Child Advocates of Fort Bend County, the Galveston Bay Foundation Marsh Mania Restoration Project, the Houston Humane Society, and the Holocaust Museum Houston.
