Skeeters host Fan Fest Saturday

The Sugar Land Skeeters will host their annual Fan Fest on Saturday, April 16, from 4-8 p.m. at Constellation Field, presented by enTouch Business.

For the first time, fans will have the opportunity to participate in a special batting practice on the Skeeters home field.

“Fan engagement is one of our top priorities,” said JT Onyett, assistant general manager of the Sugar Land Skeeters. “Fan Fest will allow several unique experiences for our fans ranging from batting practice on the field to pictures in the clubhouse, and everything in between.”

The batting practice will include various prizes, plenty of photo opportunities and live commentary from Skeeters broadcaster, Ira Liebman.

As part of Fan Fest, all fans can participate in the Skeeters Yard Sale where they will have the opportunity to purchase various items ranging from game-used equipment to signs from around the ballpark. The sale will be exclusive to season ticket holders beginning at 3:30 p.m. and will open up to all fans at 4 p.m.

Throughout the event, manager Gary Gaetti and Skeeters players will be conducting instructional demos for fans and will be holding two separate autograph sessions. Fans will also have the chance to call play-by-play with Liebman in the broadcasting booth as well as participate in Skeeters pump-up videos that will be played at Constellation Field throughout the season.

The Skeeters will also be holding Deacon’s Stars & Stripes Softball Game. The softball game will feature a fun and exciting matchup between First Responders. Celebrity guests scheduled to attend the event include former Major Leaguers Bucky Dent, Cecil Cooper, Dickie Thon, Fergie Jenkins, Jim Rice, Phil Garner, Larry Dierker and Texans punter, Shane Lechler. Fans will have the chance to get in on the action at Constellation Field with photo opportunities and participation in a jersey auction.

Grover “Deacon” Jones, special advisor to the Skeeters organization and namesake for the event, will also be present at the game. Today, Jones is best known for his community work in the Ford Bend area but is also relevant to the Houston area serving as coach for the Houston Astros from 1976-82.

“We think Fan Fest is the perfect way to kick-off a new season,” added Onyett. “Our hope is that the event will create an unforgettable experience for our fans.”

The Kids Zone features three interactive inflatables, the Memorial Hermann Play Land and a splash pad and carousel that will be open to all young Skeeters fans. All of the concession stands will be open and food and drinks pricing will be on special.

A self-guided walking tour will also be an option for new and returning fans that want a behind-the-scenes look into Constellation Field.
