Following a 7-0 victory over the Bridgeport Bluefish recently, the First Half Freedom Division Champion Sugar Land Skeeters announced that the club has set a new Atlantic League record for wins in a single season with 89. The Skeeters now hold an all-time best 89-41 record and maintain a .685 winning percentage, which stands as the best winning percentage in professional baseball.
The club’s 89th win tops the Atlantic League single-season win record previously held by the Lancaster Barnstormers, who finished the 2012 season with an 88-52 record before postseason play.
“This team has the most team spirit that I’ve probably ever experienced in my career,” said Skeeters Manager Gary Gaetti. “It’s a developed crew with a lot of intangible qualities. They’re focused, they’re enthusiastic and they find ways to win. We just want to finish the season strong and continue to play good baseball into the playoffs.”
In late June, the Skeeters captured the first half title after going 47-23 prior to the All-Star Break. This month, the Skeeters look to continue their winning ways as the club enters its first-ever Atlantic League Division playoff, scheduled for Tuesday, September 17 and Wednesday, September 18 at Constellation Field.
Great seats are available for the 2013 Atlantic League Playoffs, beginning Tuesday, September 17 at Constellation Field. Fans are encouraged to secure their seats now and become a part of Operation Blue Swarm during the Skeeters’ 2013 playoff run.
