Sugar Land police will sponsor Rape Aggression Defense (RAD), a personal safety and empowerment education program for women, during November.
Training will be held from 5:30-9 p.m. on the following dates:
• Thursday-Friday, Nov. 3-4
• Thursday-Friday, Nov. 10-11
“This is truly a program for women regardless of fitness level or physical restrictions,” said RAD Texas State Director Jim Baylor. “At the conclusion of classroom training, students will be able to apply their skills in simulated confrontations with aggressors.” Students are introduced to theories of risk avoidance, recognition, awareness and reduction, as well as basic self-defense techniques and strategies.
An enrollment fee of $25 per person helps offset instructor program materials, training and out-of-pocket expenses. Participants must be at least 11 years old, and attendance at all four training classes is required to graduate. The classes will be held at the Wharton County Junior College Sugar Land campus, 14004 University Blvd., in Room 167 of Brazos Hall.
