Both Mighty Spartan 7th grade Football teams, A and B, became District Champs for the third consecutive year with undefeated season records of 8-0! After defeating Bellville, both teams have remained undefeated in district play for the past three years! Also, in the past three years, the A Team compiled a 23-1 record while the B Team is 24-0. The A Team set a new season record by outscoring its opponents 168 to 30 over the course of 8 games. Coaches Garrett Kelley and Jerry Stephens are extremely proud of the young athletes’ performance. Ten Stafford High School Lady Spartans traveled to the University of Houston last Saturday to participate in the Future Leaders Forum for Young Ladies hosted and sponsored by Capital One Bank! Career Bridge Counselor, Cherise Roberts, reported that they described their experience as “motivating, emotional, WOW, inspiring, encouraging, phenomenal, inspirational, and the best time!” The students are Seniors, Feltasia Chevis, and Raven Alley; Juniors, Dominique Taylor, Abiola Oyewumo, and Andrea Rivers; Sophmores Cheyenne Goodson, Andrea Javellana, and Patricia Delgado; and Freshman Chelesa Amaram. Several Stafford High School students competed in the Texas Renaissance Festival’s 7th Annual School Days Essay, Poetry, and Art contests and six won awards! Their teacher, Stacey Gridley, is pleased to share the results. Winning the Essay Writing Contest are: 1st Place – Mykaela Dunn; 2nd Place – Erica Onuh; 3rd Place – Jackie Nguyen; and Honorable Mention – Sherrin Johnson. Winning 1st Place in Poetry is Misbah Baloch and Honorable Mention is Samantha Ortiz. Winning 3rd Place in Art is Renee Pizana. The 1st Place Poem “Dragon of the Cave” is attached. Go Spartans!
Veteran’s Day will be celebrated at Stafford High School on Friday, November 11th at 11:00 am. District Librarian, Mrs. Jackie Mamou, was selected by NASA to participate in the in the “Countdown to Curiosity” Workshop that will be held at the Kennedy Space Center in Coco Beach, Florida November 22-25, 2011! She is one of only forty librarians selected from throughout the U.S. to attend, learn about Mars missions and experience the launch of the newest mission to Mars – the Mars Science Laboratory Curiosity on Friday, November 25th. Congratulations Mrs. Mamou!
It is not too late to donate to the D.C. Scholarship fund! Donations will be accepted through November 30th and all funds collected will go towards full or partial scholarships for 8th grade students traveling to Washington D.C. and New York May 2 – 6, 2012. The video, “Shattered Dreams”, made by the City of Stafford at Stafford High School won 2nd place in an award category for “best programming produced in Texas that had the most impact on a community!” Awarded the ‘Kurt Ugland Programming Impact Award’ at the Texas Association of Telecommunication Officers and Advisers conference in Austin, the powerful video of SHS students and their families impacted by drinking and driving continues to impact students at not only SHS but other school districts. Carolyn Entricht, the Director of Television Production at the City of Stafford accepted the award on behalf of the City but wants to thank all involved in the program.
