I hardly know ye…….The “Star” asks a question every week and you can see the results immediately after you vote on our web site. Last week, the question was who would you vote for president between Newt, Mitt, and President Barack Obama. The results when I voted early this week were, Newt-43%, President Barack Obama- 29%, and Mitt-28%.
I don’t even know you. I don’t know the 43% of the people who read the Star and who are supposedly from Fort Bend County and who voted for Newt Gringrich. How could you?
How could you vote for a man who has left two wives, one while she was hospitalized with a serious disease, for younger women? In point of fact, Newt was attacking Clinton for lying about an affair with a younger staffer while he himself was having an affair with a younger staffer. Not only does Newt commit serial adultery, he commits serial hypocrisy.
He met his present wife Callista, a supposedly devout Catholic, who was an aide in the Agricultural Commission and had a six year affair with her before finally marrying her. She sings professionally (gets paid to sing) in the Basilica choir and Newt, born a Lutheran, became a Southern Baptist, then converted to Catholicism in 2009.
Then he had the nerve to blame his serial infidelity on his love for his country, saying he worked so hard for his country that sometimes his private life suffered.
As New York Times columnists and Pulitzer Prize winner Maureen Dowd wrote in her column: “His mind is a jumble, an amateurish mess lacking impulse control. He plays air guitar with ideas, producing air ideas. He ejaculates concepts, notions and theories that are as inconsistent as his behavior.
He didn’t get whiplash being a serial adulterer while impeaching another serial adulterer, a lobbyist for Freddie Mac while attacking Freddie Mac, a self-professed fiscal conservative with a whopping Tiffany’s credit line, and an anti-Communist Army brat who supported the Vietnam War but dodged it.”
Not only did Gringrich rage against former House Speaker Jim Wright about an ethically challenged book deal which eventually brought Wright down, he himself got into trouble the next year as House Speaker with an ethically challenged book deal and lost his position as Speaker also. Obviously he doesn’t even have a good memory.
Conventional wisdom says that Gringrich told Republicans when he was elected that they were not going to get anywhere unless they demonized the Democrats. He then led the group that went about destroying the two parties respect for each other that allowed them to have differing views but still work together for the good of the country.
I think we’ve seen in the past year what two political parties which can not work together at all can do to the country when one party is determined to tear down the government.
We found out just recently that Gringrich had a contract for $1.6 to $1.8 million to help Freddie Mac learn how to deal with critical conservatives (Gringrich’s recent persona) and stay in business. Tom DeLay’s friend Jack Abramoff went to jail for taking money from Indian gambling interests then also taking money from conservative groups supposedly opposed to gambling and trying to influence Congress over both.
During the campaign in Iowa, Gringrich endorsed a “marriage pledge” of an evangelical group and vowed fidelity to Callista. Of course, remember Gringrich has broken that vow twice before.
Newt recently espoused the hiring of 9 year olds as school janitors. He said poor children didn’t see anyone in their lives working and this would give them an impetuous. Newt doesn’t realize the problem is more likely the fact that poor people don’t get to spend much time with their children because they are working two jobs to try to keep a roof over their head and food on the table.
Ah yes, Newt pretends to be a populist and he can’t seem to drag himself out of Tiffany’s.
This is the man that 43% of people that voted in the “Star” poll would support?
