Whistle blowers: we asked, you answered…….Last week we invited whistle blowers to contact us about what they were seeing wrong, mostly in their workplace.
Our readers responded and the following are excerpts from some of the letters we received. We are working on stories about the problems they exposed which you will see in the Star in the coming weeks.
Slapped in the face by the FBISD school board
After 3 years of no pay raise for teachers and support staff and with health insurance increases and less service: ask the school board why THEY passed an increase of $190/month tech-communication package and a one year extension with various other perks to the Superintendent’s contract.
Don’t buy that $15,000 dollar cut he supposedly made last year that turns out to be a deferred payment.
Teachers are threatened every year with their jobs because “the district in short of cash” so they cut jobs and crowd the classroom and the teacher feels lucky to have a job (nice psychology). This is how we are treated….with what seems like a virtual slap in the face.
Why, Why, Why?
Has there been any reason given as to why the FBISD school board extended Jenney’s contract another year? He’s the most disrespectful, unrespected little Napoleon that I’ve ever seen – yet it looks like he got extended nonetheless. What exactly is better/improved since last year? Ask some teachers and see how they feel.
I called the county judge’s office the other day to tell them about the nepotism that was going on at the sheriff’s office. They wanted me to submit the concern in writing, either in person, mail, or email.
They just want to know who I am so they can fire me. Sure there is a policy to protect whistle blowers but they will find a way around it. I hid my number so they can’t trace it. I also sent them a email anonymously a while back. Nothing.
If I mail something I would have to be careful since they would send the letter and envelope to investigation to dust it for prints and look for saliva. I’m probably paranoid but I think they would do this. Also, recently some guy that just got hired got promoted all the way to acting lieutenant. Wow. Don’t know who he is or who he is related to, but I will try to find out.
Been there, done that…..Sorry, but I already know all about those particular items, but they do bear repeating.
The reason Dr. Jenney got another raise is because the school board is too lazy to look for another superintendent and he snows them with fancy words so they think he is real smart. Former president Sonal Bhuchar is in love with him and new president Susan Hohnbaum seems to be also. Of the other three women on the board, one is related to the other (she was appointed so don’t know how that slipped by the committee unless some lying went on) and the other one slipped in by winning an election that no one thought she would win and no one even knew her. Of the two men on the board, one is an engineer and should know better and the other is the husband of an ex-teacher and he damn sure should know better.
As far as an investigation, I am astonishingly puzzled why Dr. Jenney is still here with all the rancor about him from the employees. And I am puzzled why the board thought they could get by with giving him a raise in these times. I guess the only recourse is the ballot box and I have serious doubts if some of the board members will run again, because when you get right down to it, it is a thankless job. A board member is always going to make 50% of the people unhappy. Added to that is the serious damage the Texas legislature did to public education this past session. I wouldn’t run for the board even if God promised me a front seat in Heaven. However, last Monday, the board awarded Dr. Jenney a bonus for last year. This at a time when they are cutting everything else. They should be publicly horsewhipped. Oh, that’s the role I’m trying to fulfill, isn’t it
The monkey’s uncle…..As far as the nepotism in the sheriff’s department, we’ve chronicled that for years. Thankfully, some of the Brady bunch (named after Chief Deputy Craig Brady who is running for sheriff and hires his relatives or friends only) has retired, but some, like a bad penny, just keep showing up.
Case in point is the acting lieutenant who our whistle blower wondered about. Now this is a rumor that I’ve heard, but I’ve been in the news business in Fort Bend for over 30 years and writing this opinion column. I believe it since even the acting lieutenant personally told me some stories about this also at a meeting I had with him a couple of years ago.
The acting lieutenant is not a relative unless you count the chief deputy’s alleged association with his wife several years ago when the new acting lieutenant supposedly quit, citing a lack of integrity in the sheriff’s department after the chief deputy wore his gun when the acting lieutenant was around. Also, the acting lieutenant is in possession of a very nasty photo of the chief deputy.
As far as the chief deputy’s campaign to be sheriff, that hit a pothole Monday when at a Republican women’s forum, he had a melt down and accused a retired DPS officer, sitting in the back of the room, of “smiling” at him. He had earlier in that forum filled the seats with his “Team Brady” t-shirt wearing gang who took up many of the seats and forced many of the Republican women to stand.
I heard after the forum that some Republican women expressed concern that a man so out of control could be elected sheriff. My goodness!
I been telling ya’…….and next week I will tell you once again about the take-home cars that keeps our county broke.
